Creative Writing Classes

I teach live, online writing classes focused on craft, publication, and generative exercises. These courses cover a variety of topics, especially those niche topics related to my experience as a comedian, performer, indie author, and experimental writer.

Above all, my classes are compassionate spaces for clients to explore their interests without judgement.  I am a counselor in training with a focus in expressive arts therapy, so I prioritize mental health and safety in my workshop spaces.

Types of Classes

  • Virtual craft lectures with live Q&A

  • Multi-week group workshops in fiction and nonfiction, which meet synchronously online

  • Select classes on non-craft topics, such as publishing and performing

  • Monthly generative online writing sessions free and open to all

Online Craft Intensives

A writer’s greatest strength is their craft toolbox. Understanding things like narrative structure, humor, and figurative language makes it easier to recognize opportunities to strengthen stories and essays.

My virtual writing classes delve into narrow craft topics like adding humor into serious nonfiction, writing sharp dialogue, and mastering metaphor.

Writing Spark craft intensives are one- to two-hour webinar-style talks about the nitty-gritty of prose, plot, and particulars.

I’m here to equip your toolbox with why great writing is great and how to create compelling work. These one-time online sessions also include a take-home exercise so you can put what you learn into practice right away.

Group Writing Workshops

Unlike typical workshops where small groups exchange and critique each other’s work, mine emphasize craft analysis and self-review. As a memoirist, I’ve sat in too many classes where I bared my personal trauma only to be met with personal criticism and, often, little helpful feedback on my work.

Members of my group workshops collectively determine how a piece is succeeding within its own rules and do not focus on what’s “not working.” We analyze existing craft and apply our skills to become better editors of our own work.

Participants in these multi-week workshops will meet online, via Zoom, for four to ten weeks. Each attendee will leave with at least one complete essay, story, or chapter ready for publication.

Personal Writing Coaching

For those looking for more personalized attention than an online class, I offer one-on-one coaching, editing services, and tailored writing prompts. I recommend taking one of my workshops or setting up a free consultation to see if this option is right for you.

Through analysis, goal-setting, thoughtful revision, and curated exercises, I help writers build confidence, routine, and writing success. No matter where you are in your writing career, I’m here to be your creative cheerleader!
